World Championship Schedule, Rules, and Definitions

GB 'Squad' & 'Team' definitions:  Individual Competition format   Team Competition format   GB Squad schedule / travel arrangements

GB 'Squad' & 'Team' definitions:

-    Each country is allowed to enter a maximum of 8 dogs - these 8 dogs are what we are calling the 'Squad'.

-    All 8 dogs in the 'squad' will be entered into all the individual classes.

-    From the 'squad' of 8, four dogs will also be entered into the team competition - these 4 dogs are our 'Team':

-    The 'Team' has to be selected at the time of submitting our entry (about 6 weeks before the World Championship), and we even have to confirm their running order within the team competition at this time!

Individual Competition format (assuming the same format as 2005):

-    Competitors will all complete two agility classes and two jumping classes over the Friday and Saturday of the event.

-    The top 6 or 7 placed competitors in each class will qualify for the Individual Finals on the Sunday.

-    The next best competitor from each country will also qualify for the final:  Based upon their total results from the 4 classes completed.

-    The Individual Final entry numbers will then be made up to 40 if necessary, by taking the next placings from each Individual class (starting with Agility 1, then Agility 2, then Jumping 1, and lastly Jumping 2)

-    The Individual Final will consist of one Agility and one Jumping class - both held on the Sunday.

-    From the above it is clear that dogs need to be both fast and accurate to stand the best chance in qualifying for the Individual Final, and therefore qualify for the medals!  Hence our criteria for selection of Individual competitors from the UK - winners of the leagues, and winners of our qualifier competition when it is held.

Team Competition format (again assuming the same format as 2004 & 2005):

-    There will be one Team Agility round on the Saturday, and one Team Jumping round on the Sunday.

-    Each country team will run their 4 dogs one immediately after the other, but each dog's run is timed and judged individually (i.e. it is NOT a relay).

-    The best 3 results from the 4 individual runs in agility, and then the best 3 from the jumping, will count towards the final positions - i.e. a different dog's results may be dropped from jumping and agility.

-    In the 2003, 2004 and 2005 BSD WC (and in the main FCI WC in 2003), the winners of the team event were either the only teams with all clear-rounds, or with least faults.  Consequently, our selection criteria for the Team competition in 2005, will focus on consistency and accuracy (over FCI type courses) more than outright speed - providing they are capable of getting round within typical FCI 'Standard Course Times'.
