31 Dec 2002 More Entries for the BSD Agility League: The number of entries is growing fast - with 14 received so far, and almost as many again confirmed, but not yet received. If you know someone who would like to enter, but maybe doesn't have access to the Internet, please print them off a copy of the rules and an entry form (or get them to send an SAE to us)
13 Dec BSD Agility League Launched: To help choose a team for future World Championships (and to encourage BSD handlers to beat all those black & white things), we have decided to set up an agility league of our own! The idea came from Ellen Rocco at AgilityNet - where a similar league is run for Weimaraners. Rules and an entry form can be found here.
8 Dec Puppies on the way??? Storm had another date with Lincoln and, with a bit of luck, puppies will be on their way! If the mating was successful the puppies will be due around 8th February 2003, and ready to go to carefully selected homes at the end of March. Some are already spoken for, but if we have as many as last time there may be room on the list: Contact storm@vapresto.com if you are interested
17 Oct BSD World Championship Team formed! Bridgitte Wyre, Lisa Gantley, Mike Bacon, Ian Watts, and 6 assorted BSDs will be heading for Belgium next year to represent the UK. Any offers of support, money, or just good old encouragement will be very welcome!

Aug Frost in the Pro Plan Purina Classic Final at Dogs
in Need: Is there no stopping this boy... Frosty Boy made this
our best ever show, with no less than 6 clear rounds in 4 days (including 12th
and 15th places in Starters Agility, and a 20th in Starters Jumping). This
was enough to qualify for one of the 30 places in Sunday's finals, where he went
on to another lovely agility clear round in a time of 41.69 seconds - giving him
8th place overall (and top Tervueren).
For those unfamiliar with the annual 'Dogs in Need' show at Ipswich, it is one
of the biggest agility events of the year and had over 350 dogs entered in
Starters classes that qualified towards the final. We are very proud of
him!

Before you ask... yes, our other three Tervs all took part, but didn't
provide any work for the rosette manufacturers on this occasion!!!
Frost on his way to 12th place in a Starters Agility
class at Dogs in Need
10 Aug Frost gets his highest place yet: 7th in Elementary Jumping at the Agility Club show at Luton
3 Aug 2002 Vapresto Alaskan Frost graded EXCELLENT at The Belgian Shepherd Dog Association Championship Show on 3 August 2002 by judge, Mme W Van Deijl from the Netherlands
20 July
2002 Frost 8th in Novice Jumping: Frosty put on a bit more speed
to win his first ever placing , at Belvoir Castle Country Fair, after a year of
consistent, but somewhat 'steady' clear rounds! This makes this our most
successful agility year to date -
with placings for all our four competing dogs:
April 2002 - Cloud - 28th - Novice Jumping - BATS
May 2002 - Storm - 1st - Starters Jumping - Dordale
June 2002 - Blitz - 29th - Open ABC Jumping - Supa Dogs
July 2002 - Frost - 8th - Novice Jumping
- Belvoir Castle
... and still another two months to go for us fair-weather competitors!
4 June 2002 'Blitz' placed in ABC Jumping at Supa dogs: Only 29th, but it was open to all (except collies of course) and he's a youngster so there's plenty of time to improve. He still beat over 200 other dogs on the day and is enjoying his treat as I write this!
26 May 2002 Vapresto Alaskan Frost reserve Post Graduate Dog at Bath Championship Show: OK not quite good enough for Crufts yet, but not bad for our boy who hasn't been shown for nearly two years - as he's been too busy collecting rosettes in the agility ring! His brother Blitz also picked up a VHC (Very Highly Commended) in Open Dog!

'Vapresto Aurora Kita at Minka' gets 'perfect' hip-score: One of Storm's 'puppies'
achieved the ultimate score of 0 - 0 by the BVA this month.

2002 Storm wins out of Starters!
After 5 years of trashing courses, Storm has finally won a 'Starters' Jumping
competition - beating 169 other dogs at Dordale show on 5 May - with only her
third ever clear round!.
For those readers unfamiliar with agility
competitions, winning out of Starters is a big
thing - but it also means that the dog, all other dogs owned by the
same person, and/or the owner can never again compete at starters or
elementary level again! So Blitz and Storm will now have to tackle the big
dogs courses!
To those trusty volunteers who have been pole-picking after Storm in Starters
classes for the past 5 years, thank you and sorry we made you work so
hard!

2002 First Vapresto in Europe...
Millie (aka Vapresto Atlantic Ice) spent Christmas in Holland - thus making her
the very first Vapresto to travel overseas. Apparently she was very
popular and one Dutch lady wanted to buy her on the spot!!!
