North Ronaldsay Sheep

North Ronaldsay sheep are a rare breed.  They represent an early stage in the evolution of the domestic sheep.  On North Ronaldsay the "Ronnies" have adapted to a diet consisting mainly of seaweed .  This has led to physical changes over the years.  For example, they are not so prone to foot-rot or mastitis but unfortunately some sheep kept on the mainland can be particularly prone to absorbing too much copper.   They are easy to handle and extremely friendly.
