BSD World Championships 2006

BSD WC 2006 - Lack of news on the Vapresto site:  We apologise for the lack of news during the event, and a full report afterwards, but Ian decided to withdraw Blitz from the squad at the last minute - and so did not travel to Hungary in the end.  Rather than bore you all with the circumstances leading to my withdrawal from the squad on this page, you can click here (now available) if you wish to read the full story from Vapresto's perspective.

CONGRATULATIONS

Andy Brown and Skye (Heidron Chasing Stormy Skye) have retained their Individual World Championship Title in Hungary.

Andy secured his place in the 2006 GB squad with first place in the Novice section of the Vapresto BSD Agility Leagues last year, and we are very proud that once again the leagues have identified a World class winner!

Well done again Andy & Skye

Sadly the 'team' did not do so well this time:

The 2006 team were not selected by Vapresto, but consisted of Anne & Louise Challis and Brenda Hollis as well as Andy and Skye.  They ended up 10th overall after a couple of eliminations knocked them out of contention for the top places.

Unfortunately we do not have a full report or pictures from the 2006 BSD WC in Hungary as Ian & Blitz withdrew from the squad:  However, results and a link to some photographs, can be found at www.fmbb.net

Great News for Agility BSDs in the UK

At the BSDA AGM  on 19th March the formation of a BSDA of GB 'Agility Section', proposed by Vapresto, was voted for in principle - by an overwhelming majority:  The primary purpose of the Agility Section will be to organise, and fund-raise for, sending a GB team to the BSD World Championships in future years.

The structure of the new working section is yet to be determined by the BSDA Committee, but we are delighted that this effectively safeguards a fair selection process and our continued participation in this most prestigious BSD breed event.

Vapresto are pleased to have been responsible for our attendance for the past 3 years, but now feel it is time to share the workload, and to have the full support of the only FCI-recognised breed society in the UK.

Unfortunately, there is some doubt that we will be able to send a full squad of 8 to the BSD WC in Hungary this year:  The best coach hire quotation we could get was again from Reliance coaches, but the additional distance and high road tolls in Hungary, has put it beyond the reach of the show proceeds for the travel alone!  Consequently, we have abandoned the idea of sending a coach, and are currently discussing the alternatives for 2006 and future BSD World Championships.  The prospect of a 24 hour drive in both directions will inevitably shape the squad line-up, regardless of cost, but we hope that Great Britain will still be represented in Hungary by some of the following enthusiastic individuals willing to make their own arrangements, and Vapresto will try to keep everyone informed through this page of our website...

Provisionally, the GB squad has been named as follows:

Andy Brown Heidron Chasing Stormy Skye Skye
Brenda Hollis Baudwin Cappamore Bailey
Gill Raddings Minka Morgan Check Check
Ian Watts Vapresto Awesome Blizzard Blitz
Julie Saunders Minka Lexey QT Razzle
Anne Challis Louandi Bronzed Teak Copper
Louise Challis Louandi Bonnet River River
Tina Simpson Hawksflight Dream Believer Onyx

Sadly, the following VAC members decided to forego the long and expensive trip to Hungary, and thus it was not necessary for us to have a selection process to name the 8 people above:

Diane Griffin (with Chase or Inca), Yvonne Horner (with Shankley), Lisa Jordan (with Kane), and Linda Evans (with Razzle)

Apologies if I have missed anyone from this list, as we are also aware that several others may have been interested in taking part had the 2006 WC been closer to home than over 1100 miles away in Hungary!

November 2005:

BSDWC          The deadline for vaccinations has now passed for the 2006 BSD WC in Hungary:  If your dog will have a passport valid for return to the UK on 8th May 2006, and you would like to represent the UK at the BSD WC next year, can you please let me know ASAP by email - even if you have already qualified... Thanks! ian@vapresto.com

Vapresto are in the process of organising a fund-raising show and hope to have more details very soon - watch this space!

August 2005:

Now that it is confirmed that we can enter a GB team and Individual competitors, and as there appears to be quite a lot of interest in taking part, it is inevitable that there will need to be some form of selection process for the 8 places in the squad:  This will be held as close as possible to the deadline for submission of entries, in order to make sure we have the best available dogs at the time - probably some time in March 2006.

The following
will automatically qualify to compete at least as Individual competitors in 2006

-  The 2005 BSD World Championship winning dogs (Skye, Kyte, and Bailey)
-  The winners of the Novice and Senior Vapresto Leagues

The following dogs will be invited to take part in a 'training day', run over FCI courses, some time during March 2006, and the remaining places on the squad will be filled ONLY by attendees of this event that hold a PETS passport valid for return to the UK on 7th May 2006.

-  All Senior and Advanced BSDs
-  All dogs currently competing in Novice that have gained a top 20 place in Novice Agility AND Novice Jumping (or higher) in 2005

Whilst your performance during the 'Training Day' itself will be taken into consideration for team selection, we will also use our knowledge of consistency through competition results notified to Vapresto for league points during 2005.

VERY IMPORTANT: All those wishing to be considered for the squad will need to have their dogs vaccinated against rabies by 7th October, to allow one month before the blood test, then 6 months before re-entry into the UK.

In addition ALL squad members will be expected to help with raising the considerable amount of money that will be required to travel to Hungary.  It is anticipated that we will need something in the region of £10,000 in total if we are to travel by air-conditioned coach again, and we are again planning to hold a Spring show to raise the bulk of the funds.

Please email me at ian@vapresto.com, or telephone me on 07774 727995 if you have any questions, or wish to register an interest in taking part.
