BSD World Championships 2007

Latest Situation:

Please see the Vapresto forums for the latest information regarding the BSD WC situation in detail, and for all future news on the BSD WC:

Briefly - the BSDA have chosen to ignore most of the terms of the proposal submitted to them prior to their AGM in March 2006.  At that AGM the membership voted (with an unopposed and overwhelming majority) to establish a sub-committee for the BSDA alone to manage all aspects of Britain's representation at future World Championships.  Since then, the BSDA have decided to collaborate with the WBSDS (against the wishes of the Vapresto Agility Club membership as voted at our own AGM) and together have published a selection process that allows one or more individuals to be selected subjectively, and without even attending the qualifying competition at all!

Consequently, we have announced that we will only allocate funding (from the remainder of the proceeds from Spring At Shuttleworth 2006) to those individuals that gain their place on the 2007 squad through their results in the four runs at the qualifying competition alone.  It is our hope that the BSDA and WBSDS amend their selection criteria to ensure that ALL squad members are selected by completely objective criteria alone - i.e. the top 8 places at the qualifier competition.

Changes to FCI Rules

The FCI have very kindly sent Vapresto the final draft of the proposed changes to FCI Agility Rules - due to take effect on 1st January 2007.
The document runs to some 17 pages, but the key changes to current rules are as follows:

A-frame same height as ours - i.e 170cm

Weaves for all competitions to be set at 60cm apart (already the case for the WC)

Combination jumps have to be in a straight line and precisely 4m apart for large dogs, and must be approached in a straight line from the previous obstacle (as is also the case for tyres, long jumps & spread jumps

The time taken for the see-saw to tip must be measured and within set parameters!!!

Minimum tyre aperture of 45cms

Dogs snapping constantly at the handler will be ELIMINATED!

The second judge to mark up contacts of the dog walk is applicable for World Championship competition only.

Contrary to reports from a BSD forum recently, no changes to the width of the dog-walk or see-saw planks are mentioned in the final draft for 2007.

BSD WC 2007
Just a reminder to anyone thinking of trying out for the GB squad at the BSD WC in France next year, who hasn't got a PETS Passport yet:  13th October was the last day for your dog's rabies vaccination if you wish to return on the Sunday night of the competition! So, if you wish to be considered for the squad, get down the vets on Monday and be prepared to stay a few days after the WC in Le Touquet.

We are very disappointed that the BSDA (Vapresto's chosen successors) are still being diverted from the task of planning for the next BSD WC, by continued interference from a rival organisation:  Hopefully we will have a resolution very soon and everyone will finally be clear on what the selection process will be.

As primary organizers of, and fund-raisers for, all previous GB squads at the BSD WC, Vapresto do not recognise any organisation other than the BSDA of GB (as the only currently KC registered British FMBB members) for selection of the 2007 BSD WC squad:

The BSDA has appointed a specialist agility sub-committee for this purpose (in accordance with members wishes at the AGM) to ensure that the selection process remains fair to all and is in the best interests of the BSD Agility community as a whole in the UK.

The funds raised from Spring At Shuttleworth 2006 have already been transferred to the BSDA to ensure that no advance payment is required from anyone wishing to enter the selection process, and that training, selection, and travel expenses will all be covered.

 BSD World Championships 2007

At their committee meeting on 16th July, the Belgian Shepherd Dog Association of Great Britain (BSDA) confirmed that they are the only KC registered club to become members of the FMBB.

As agreed at their AGM in March, the BSDA have appointed a sub-committee to select the GB team and make the necessary arrangements for Great Britain to be represented at the next BSD WC, in Le Touquet on 11th-13th May 2007.

The BSDA already have the funds in place to send a full squad to France and have published the selection criteria on their website (www.bsdaofgb.co.uk).

Interested parties should contact Ken & Sue Bowe at ekusen_si_ks@btinternet.com

The BSDA will be appointing a 'Sub-Committee' to decide upon selection criteria for this event, but with sufficient money already raised to fund a full squad of 8 dogs and handlers, and the short travelling distance involved, we are hopeful that we will be able to send the very best team to try and regain the team World Championship title that we lost in Hungary (and try for a 3rd successive Individual title)!

Great News for Agility BSDs in the UK

At the BSDA AGM  on 19th March the formation of a BSDA of GB 'Agility Section', proposed by Vapresto, was voted for in principle - by an overwhelming majority:  The primary purpose of the Agility Section will be to organise, and fund-raise for, sending a GB team to the BSD World Championships in future years.

The structure of the new working section is yet to be determined by the BSDA Committee, but we are delighted that this effectively safeguards a fair selection process and our continued participation in this most prestigious BSD breed event.

Vapresto are pleased to have been responsible for our attendance for the past 3 years, but now feel it is time to share the workload, and to have the full support of the only FCI-recognised breed society in the UK.
